5TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS

PATRICIA M. NOONAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Jersey City, NJ
September 2022- Present

  • Delivered the Benchmark Advance Language Arts Curriculum with fidelity while meeting the needs of approximately 50 fifth grade students, including 12 ESL students and 8 special education students with IEPs. 

  • Identified as a highly effective teacher and invited to host a collegial visit in my classroom for other teachers throughout the Jersey City District.

  • Appointed the grade level representative to effectively host grade level PLCs and communicate important information to grade level team members. 

  • Supplemented curriculum with projects, teacher-made formative assessment, and homework assignments.

  • Implemented small group reading, writer’s workshops, and centers to promote a balance of independent practice and teacher-guided learning using print and digital activities.   

  • Collaborated with special education teacher to develop inclusive instructional strategies and differentiate learning materials.

  • Communicate with parents on ClassDojo via private messages and monthly newsletters.

4TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES, SCIENCE, & HEALTH

  • Carried out, supplemented, and differentiated social studies, science, and health curriculum materials to meet the needs of approximately 50 fourth grade students, including 20 ESL students and 7 special education students with IEPs.  

  • Prioritized hands-on, student-led learning opportunities in science and social studies. 

  • Planned Social-Emotional Learning lessons focusing on empathy and self-esteem. 

  • Created instructional materials to better support students’ needs in a post-COVID environment. 

  • Developed and delivered comprehensive and engaging virtual lessons during a district-wide quarantine period (January 2022).

  • Collaborated with language arts teacher to develop cross-curricular lesson plans. 

  • Fostered student growth by 48% in social studies and 46% in science by the end of the school year, exceeding target SGO.

  • Completed 100 hours of co-teaching and 15-weeks of student teaching in a fourth-grade classroom

  • Participated in the district Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Teams to offer school-wide positive behavior initiatives for students
